COVID-19 Update
Update 9/11/21
We have spent some time this week speaking to numerous people on the Covid Hotline, Business Victoria, Health & Human Services and Safe Work Australia. We can re-confirmation that we are still to operate under the Hair & Beauty Guidelines and Covid Restrictions. After receiving the updated confirmation we are confident making the following suggestions for anyone returning to Face Painting.
- Have a Covid-Safe Plan.
- You must wear a mask and maintain social distancing where possible. Meaning do not allow spectators, family members and waiting children inside your â1.5m bubbleâ. Your bubble consists of you, your equipment and the child you are creating your magic on.
- Mask Wearing: Stay up to date with your state mask-wearing guidelines. Currently, in VIC, masks are required indoors for anyone aged over 12. Masks are highly recommended outdoors if physical distancing is not possible. See theâŻFace Mask page for further information about when to wear a face mask in Victoria.
- Single-load brushes and sponges per client. Once your loaded brush or sponge has touched the clientâs skin it cannot be re-loaded. See below for our suggested brush-wash system.
- Sanitise your hands and any equipment between clients.
- As with any booking, remember to hydrate regularly.
- Donât push yourself too hard, this is still a new system, in a new Covid-safe world, it will take time to get comfortable and for the process to become second nature.
- Have fun and spread the Love! (Not the germs...) âş

Suggested Brush-Wash System
After careful investigation and advice from Health & Human Services in regard to infection prevention, we suggest the following 4 Container Brush-Wash System. Please ensure all containers are clearly marked to avoid cross-contamination or confusion. We do suggest using a rotation system with your brushes for added hygiene and peace of mind.
(As always, load brush or sponge using fresh clean water before activating paint)
4 Container Brush-Wash System
Container 1 â Warm Water and FPA Brush Spa (or similar product)
Wash the brush as you have always done to remove the product from the brush. Dab on a clean piece of paper towel to remove any further traces.
Container 2 â Clean Water
Cleanse brush to remove any of container 1 remnants. Again dab onto a paper towel to remove traces of water.
Container 3 â Rubbing Alcohol 70% proof or higher
Swirl brush in a container for 10 seconds to kill bacteria. Again dab onto a paper towel to remove traces.

Container 4 â Clean water to remove remaining alcohol.
Rinse off remaining alcohol to ensure the brush is safe to use on your paints and the next clientâs skin.

Helpful Info
"Rubbing alcohol has many uses. Itâs a powerful germicide, which means it has the ability to kill a wide variety of germs, including bacteria, viruses, and fungi. Rubbing alcohol is used in healthcare settings to disinfect hands and surfaces, but can also be used as a household cleaner.

Article on covid-safe cleaning makeup brushes tips.
âAt a molecular level soap is very destructive for bacteria and viruses â it just breaks down the lipid layer and disrupts any chemical bonds viruses or bacteria are using to cling on to a surface or skin.
- Emily-Jane Williams, a make-up artist and co-founder of Em-J Cosmetics
"Dr Mayou agrees, adding that soap removes dirt, bacteria and dissolves fat and therefore the lipid membrane of the coronavirus particle which is then no longer infectious."
-Dr Susan Mayou, a consultant dermatologist at the Cadogan Clinic
